Entry #1

What I am hoping to learn in this class:
I have to admit; I am not a technologically savvy person and have much to learn about technological applications in general and in reference to education.  I would like to learn new ways to incorporate technology into my music classes aside from traditional practices (CD player, music from iPhone/iPod, etc.).  I recently bought a Mac computer and am excited about the possibilities of using the program “Garage Band” in/with my classes.  I would like to learn about other programs, applications, devices that I can introduce to my students and use to assist me in class.  I would also like to learn more about Smart Boards, I know next to nothing at the moment.

My technology expertise level:
I am proficient with basic programs such as Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook, etc.  I am able to use both a PC and/or Mac now and am learning about the various programs offered through Mac.  Last semester I took C&I 501; Curriculum and Instruction.  While working on projects for that class I learned how to create a Wiki page, use/create a google doc, and have a scheduled online chat with other students from the class.  Other than that, I am fairly new to the world of technology.

What I teach/grade levels:
Kindergarten-3rd grade Music/Movement/Theater at the Missoula International School.

Something interesting about me:
I discovered that I loved teaching while serving in AmeriCorps at Russell Elementary School in Missoula.  That experience changed my life, marking the beginning of a new chapter in my life.  Another interesting fact is that I have a 2 year old daughter named Aspen.  She is the light of my life and I am looking forward to having her as a student at MIS someday.  It will be such an amazing experience to be immediately involved with her education while she is attending school.  My husband Christian also teaches at MIS and we are both excited to have Aspen at the school with us.
